Florida - 1912 - "FLAGLER'S FOLLY" COMPLETED
     Henry Flagler's dream of a railroad across the Keys to Key West was completed on January 22, 1912. It covered 127.84 miles from Homestead to Key West. Seventy-five miles of that distance was over water or marsh.  It had taken Flagler's own engineers and crews of 3,000 to 4,000 men over seven years to complete the task.
